The Inside-Park Advantage
While day visitors queue at the gate, you are already inside the park. From the 6:00 AM opening you get the first, freshest tracking of the day — the best light, the most active predators. The same advantage at dusk: you stay while others leave. This is the single biggest reason to sleep inside the park.
DWC Bungalow
Government-owned bungalow deep inside Wilpattu National Park. Basic, state-owned eco-accommodation — expect limited solar power (roughly 6PM–10PM), cold water, no AC, and simple beds with mosquito nets. Meals are prepared on-site. There is no reliable Wi-Fi. This is wilderness, not a lodge.
All bungalows are government-owned DWC structures inside Wilpattu. Facilities are basic — this is wilderness, not luxury. Bungalow assignment is based on availability and group size.
Manikwila Bungalow
Best for: Leopard sightings
Wildlife: Leopards, elephants, crocodiles, painted storks
Up to 4 guests · Manikwila Villu
Prime leopard territory. Positioned near a permanent water source that draws leopards year-round. One of the best spots in Wilpattu for big cat encounters.
After dark: The permanent water source draws nocturnal visitors nightly — fishing cats, civets, and mouse deer are regularly spotted around the bungalow after dark. Leopard calls echo through the forest.
Lunuwewa Bungalow
Best for: Central location
Wildlife: Birds, elephants, deer, crocodiles
Up to 4 guests · Lunuwewa Villu
Right in the middle of the park — getting around is easy from here. On the edge of one of Wilpattu's largest lakes with excellent birding and regular elephant sightings.
Thalawila Bungalow
Best for: Quiet escape
Wildlife: Elephants, leopards, sloth bears
Up to 4 guests · Thalawila Villu
The safest and quietest option, a bit away from everything. Closer to the elephant corridors. Perfect for those who want peace and a slower pace.
Panikkawila Bungalow
Best for: Birdwatching
Wildlife: Birds, sloth bears, leopards, elephants
Up to 4 guests · Panikkar Villu
Similar central positioning to Lunuwewa — good for getting around the park. Known for excellent birding with a mix of forest and open-country species.
Manawila Bungalow
Best for: Leopard sightings
Wildlife: Leopards, elephants, deer
Up to 4 guests · Manawila Villu
Leopard territory. Dense forest surroundings with frequent big cat activity. One of Wilpattu's most reliable leopard zones.
Mahaweva Bungalow
Best for: More animal activity
Wildlife: Elephants, deer, peacocks, birds
Up to 6 guests · Mahawewa Villu
Overlooking a big lake where large groups of animals gather. Open plains with constant wildlife movement — elephants, deer herds, and peacocks in abundance.
Maradammaduwa Dormitory
Best for: Sloth bears & large groups
Wildlife: Sloth bears, leopards, elephants
Up to 20 guests · Maradammaduwa
The best spot for sloth bear sightings in Wilpattu. Dormitory-style accommodation that handles large groups up to 20 people. Deep in bear territory.
After dark: Deep in the interior, the dormitory compound sees regular night visitors — slender loris in the trees, civets foraging along the perimeter, and occasional leopard calls in the distance.
Kokmote Bungalow
Best for: Multi-day stays & leisure
Wildlife: Elephants, crocodiles, birdlife
Up to 4 guests · Kokmote
Beside a river where you can take a dip between safaris. The best choice for stays longer than one night — combining wildlife with a touch of relaxation.
Solar Power (6PM–10PM Only)
No air conditioning means no generator noise. No hum, no vibration. Just the sounds of the jungle. Ceiling fans keep air moving. You adapt to the park's rhythm, not the other way around.
No Reliable Wi-Fi
Disconnect. Focus. Be present. There is no reliable connectivity at the bungalow, so plan to be offline for your stay.
Simple Beds, Mosquito Nets
Not a luxury resort. Basic government-issue beds with mosquito nets. The charm is in falling asleep to leopard calls, not thread count.
Meals Prepared On-Site
All meals, drinking water, tea, coffee, snacks, fruit and your groceries are covered and prepared at the bungalow, with dietary requirements accommodated on advance notice.
Day 1: Into the Deep
Midday – Evening
Arrive at the park gate. Drive through Wilpattu's canopy to your bungalow deep inside the park. Settle in while the last day visitors head for the gates. Afternoon game drive — your naturalist reads the terrain and recent sightings to plan your route through the park's interior. Return at sunset. Dinner at the bungalow as the nocturnal jungle awakens around you.
Day 2: Golden Hour & Interior Zones
Early Morning – Evening
6:00 AM start. Golden-hour tracking — fresh pugmarks, active predators, no crowds. Morning drive through leopard and elephant corridors. Return for breakfast and rest during the midday heat while animals rest in thick cover. Afternoon drive into deeper interior zones — different terrain, different wildlife. Sunset return. Dinner at the bungalow.
Day 3: Targeting the Wish-List
Early Morning – Evening
Your naturalist revisits yesterday's sighting locations and adjusts the route based on what is still on your radar. Early-morning drive focused on your priority species — whether that is tracking a leopard seen the previous evening or searching for sloth bears in the interior. Morning drive exploring new areas. Breakfast. Midday rest. Afternoon drive — the final deep push into the park's less-visited corners. Last night celebration — an open-air barbecue under the stars. Gather around the fire, swap stories, and toast to three days in the wild.
Day 4: Farewell Morning
Early Morning
Final early-morning drive from 6:00 AM, with the tracks largely to yourself before the day visitors arrive. Return for a bush breakfast — your last moments in the wilderness. Pack up. Scenic drive back through the park to the gate.
All meals are prepared for you at the bungalow — breakfast, lunch and dinner — with dietary requirements accommodated on advance notice. Drinking water, tea, coffee, snacks, fresh fruit and your groceries and provisions for the stay are all included.
On an inside-park stay we handle everything — safari and park fees, guiding, the jeep, your bungalow, every meal, drinking water, groceries and all the small logistics. We do not resell the DWC bungalow or any single component of the trip — we build one complete guided tour around it. You just show up.
The most immersive Wilpattu experience possible. Four days inside the park, from 6:00 AM opening to 6:00 PM closing, from your bungalow. For experienced wildlife enthusiasts who want to go deeper than most visitors ever will.
All bungalow bookings go through us. You cannot book a DWC bungalow independently — we handle the entire reservation process with the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
A 30% deposit secures your booking, payable online. We request availability from DWC and reserve the best bungalow we can for your group. Book at least 8 weeks in advance and we will try to secure your preferred bungalow based on your wildlife priorities. The balance is due on the day of your tour.
Simple Sri Lankan meals are prepared for you at the bungalow, with dietary requirements accommodated on advance notice.
Facilities inside the park are basic — limited solar power, simple beds with mosquito nets, attached bathroom. No reliable Wi-Fi and no air conditioning. This is wilderness, not luxury.
