The Inside-Park Advantage
Golden Hour Advantage
While day visitors queue at the gate, you are already inside the park. From the 6:00 AM opening you get the first, freshest tracking of the day — the best light, the most active predators. The same advantage at dusk: you stay while others leave. This is the single biggest reason to sleep inside the park.

DWC Bungalow
Government-owned bungalow deep inside Wilpattu National Park. Basic, state-owned eco-accommodation — expect limited solar power (roughly 6PM–10PM), cold water, no AC, and simple beds with mosquito nets. Meals are prepared on-site. There is no reliable Wi-Fi. This is wilderness, not a lodge.

Manikwila Bungalow
Best for: Leopard sightings
Wildlife: Leopards, elephants, crocodiles, painted storks

Prime leopard territory. Positioned near a permanent water source that draws leopards year-round. One of the best spots in Wilpattu for big cat encounters.
After dark: The permanent water source draws nocturnal visitors nightly — fishing cats, civets, and mouse deer are regularly spotted around the bungalow after dark. Leopard calls echo through the forest.
Lunuwewa Bungalow
Best for: Central location
Wildlife: Birds, elephants, deer, crocodiles

Right in the middle of the park — getting around is easy from here. On the edge of one of Wilpattu's largest lakes with excellent birding and regular elephant sightings.

After dark: Deep in the interior, the dormitory compound sees regular night visitors — slender loris in the trees, civets foraging along the perimeter, and occasional leopard calls in the distance.
Kokmote Bungalow
Best for: Multi-day stays & leisure
Wildlife: Elephants, crocodiles, birdlife

Beside a river where you can take a dip between safaris. The best choice for stays longer than one night — combining wildlife with a touch of relaxation.
Why Basic Facilities Are the Point
Solar Power (6PM–10PM Only)
No air conditioning means no generator noise. No hum, no vibration. Just the sounds of the jungle. Ceiling fans keep air moving. You adapt to the park's rhythm, not the other way around.
No Reliable Wi-Fi
Disconnect. Focus. Be present. There is no reliable connectivity at the bungalow, so plan to be offline for your stay.
Simple Beds, Mosquito Nets
Not a luxury resort. Basic government-issue beds with mosquito nets. The charm is in falling asleep to leopard calls, not thread count.
Meals Prepared On-Site
All meals, drinking water, tea, coffee, snacks, fruit and your groceries are covered and prepared at the bungalow, with dietary requirements accommodated on advance notice.
Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Into the Wild
Afternoon – Evening
Arrive at the park gate and meet your naturalist and driver. A scenic drive through Wilpattu's dry-zone woodland canopy takes you to your bungalow deep inside the park — as the last day visitors head for the exits. Settle in, then head out for your first game drive as the afternoon light softens. Return at sunset. Dinner at the bungalow, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle at night.

Day 2: Golden Hour Advantage
Early Morning
When the park opens at 6:00 AM you are already on the tracks, ahead of the day visitors queueing at the gate. Golden-hour tracking — the best light, the freshest pugmarks, the most active predators. Return for a bush breakfast at the bungalow. Scenic drive back through the park to the gate.
Meals
All meals are prepared for you at the bungalow — breakfast, lunch and dinner — with dietary requirements accommodated on advance notice. Drinking water, tea, coffee, snacks, fresh fruit and your groceries and provisions for the stay are all included.

On an inside-park stay we handle everything — safari and park fees, guiding, the jeep, your bungalow, every meal, drinking water, groceries and all the small logistics. We do not resell the DWC bungalow or any single component of the trip — we build one complete guided tour around it. You just show up.

Why This Tour
Short on time but want the real Wilpattu experience? One night inside the park means early drives from 6:00 AM — first on the tracks when the gates open. Perfect for a weekend getaway or as an add-on to a Sri Lanka trip.
How to Book
All bungalow bookings go through us. You cannot book a DWC bungalow independently — we handle the entire reservation process with the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
A 30% deposit secures your booking, payable online. We request availability from DWC and reserve the best bungalow we can for your group. Book at least 8 weeks in advance and we will try to secure your preferred bungalow based on your wildlife priorities. The balance is due on the day of your tour.
Simple Sri Lankan meals are prepared for you at the bungalow, with dietary requirements accommodated on advance notice.
Facilities inside the park are basic — limited solar power, simple beds with mosquito nets, attached bathroom. No reliable Wi-Fi and no air conditioning. This is wilderness, not luxury.
